About Sturbridge Retirement Co-Operative Corporation (SRCC)
Who We Are
Sturbridge Retirement Co-Operative Corporation (SRCC) is a 55+ resident-owned community located in the heart of Sturbridge, Massachusetts. With 220 homes, SRCC is more than just a neighborhood — it is a cooperative where each shareholder plays a role in shaping the future of our community.
Our Cooperative Model
As a co-op, SRCC is owned collectively by its residents. Each household owns a share in the corporation, giving residents a direct voice in community decisions through voting rights and active participation. This structure ensures that decisions about maintenance, improvements, and policies are made with the interests of residents at the forefront.
The cooperative model allows us to:
Keep housing costs fair and stable.
Reinvest in community improvements.
Maintain control over how our neighborhood is managed.
Build a community rooted in shared responsibility and mutual respect.
What We Provide
SRCC maintains and oversees:
Roads and streetlights within the community.
Water and wastewater systems, including five private wells and a treatment facility.
Community contracts, such as basic cable TV service.
Shared amenities, including the recreation hall for community gatherings and meetings.
Residents are responsible for the upkeep of their individual homes and lots, while SRCC provides the infrastructure and cooperative management that support the whole community.
Governance
SRCC is governed by an elected Board of Trustees, made up of shareholder residents. The Board works with professional management to oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with state and local requirements, and plan for long-term improvements. Regular board meetings, open to residents, provide transparency and encourage community involvement.
Our Mission
Our mission is to maintain SRCC as a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment for all residents. We are committed to fostering community spirit, protecting property values, and ensuring that SRCC remains a place residents are proud to call home.
A Place to Call Home
Living at SRCC means more than maintaining a house — it means being part of a community where neighbors support one another, decisions are made together, and the focus is on creating a comfortable, connected environment for all.
